Dreamy Saul

Hjordis chilling in the sunMe-wowww! I am impressed by the number of creative cat-loving bloggers out there! In some cases, the feline gods and goddesses even seem to administer their blogs themselves. Very impurrrrsive!

Meet the furballs

As we all know from Tweety & Sylvester, canaries have a special relationship with ‘putty tats’ which is why I wanted to take the opportunity to solemnly introduce to you my two fury friends Saul (the ginger-colored and white-chested gentleman) and Hjordis (pitch-black and named after a Norwegian warrior princess but soft and gentle as it gets).

This is not a cat blog but the two might make occasional appearances on this platform as the Canary observes them quite a lot.

Indeed they are beautiful! And what a vivid description of the two! Love the photos, I do! I am of course, incredibly proud of Hjordis (or Hjördís, as her lovely little name would be written in Icelandic). The name actually means “The Guarding Mistress of the Sword in Battle” — or even yeah. I am not improvising, you know. Pagans simply were that dramatic. Aasgard and all that … and to add to it all (Icelandic and mad about the old sagas) Hjordis was the mother of a great warrior, named Sigurdur Fafnisbani … you have chosen the name wisely. And now – all of a sudden – after looking at your lovely photos … I want a cat. Just like yours. Preferably two also.

Thanks, Klara, for giving me this background on the name of my furry version of the ‘Guarding Mistress of the Sword in the Battle’. Very cool. I better not tell Hjordis, otherwise she will develop a major cattitude and insist on a daily ration of Norwegian salmon. Plus, I can only recommend having a cat. Btw, Saul and Hjordis are rescue cats, adopted 13 years ago. Saul was reportedly found as a three-weeks old kitten in a dumpster in Harlem, and Hjordis was left pregnant (probably with lil Sigurdur) in a box outside an animal shelter in NY. They have since traveled the world and are pretty happy campers. I am sure there is a Norwegian god(dess) of felinity stuck in an Oslo shelter that would be an equally perfect match for you; yeah, or maybe even two.
